Poetry & Prose
In August the theme was Colour, and Christine Jones certainly offered us a colourful programme - first having introduced the evening with a few words on the use of colours in poetry.
Christine, Pat, & Julian Jones, Ruth Nicholls and Peter Dudman read works by Joseph Lesser, Ogden Nash, Reginald Arkell, Gavriel Ansara, Dorothy Parker, Gerad Durrell, William Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, Anne Ridler, W.B.Yeats, Dorothea Mackeller, Christine Rosetti, D.H.Lawrence, Freda Downie, Derek Chapman.
Julian Jones’s reading of an extract from H.E.Bates’s The Darling Buds of May, and Peter Dudman’s reading of Keith Waterhouse’s A Likely Story were enormously entertaining.
Fittingly – although not in purple and red – Christine closed the evening with a rendition of Jenny Joseph’s Warning.
