Recalled to life

At the committee meeting, it was suggested  by me that we find a pantomime. Well, it's August and we like to go in December so I thought it was about time we chose something. Why do I never think before I open my mouth? I was genuinely hoping that someone had something they really wanted to do in the 'trad panto' line so that I could have another winter off to get on with some 'real work' but there were no heads above the parapet and so it was left to me to gape my great maw again and list the stuff I had. They chose Alice, a script based on Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland I had tucked away in the 'this will never see the light of day again' box in the deep recesses of my 'office' but at least we had a decision!

Enter the Blue meanies

The Meanies entered, singing loudly, as soon as I started reading the script. Not that it wasn't a good script. I don't do bad scripts but this one was an ancient hippy written almost forty years ago and I knew with out reading beyond the character descriptions that it would not be suitable for DADS. I was staring blankly at a full re-write!!!

7/30 am

After a day of reading, I have decided that I will keep the shape of the play and most of the characters. Unfortunately some are so dated that even nips and tucks won't help so they must be replaced by more up to date ones. I opened the file at 7.30  am

Retreat of the Blue meanies

Writing has driven off the meanies. The play is really quite funny

6.30 pm. Alice is finished, well the writing of it is finished. Now I have to get it in to Publisher so that I can make it into books.

Auditions! Auditions

Posters done and I have written a begging e-mail to Paul Gunn at Cambrian News to see if I can get something in the paper for Thursday. September 11th and 13th will be the days of the auditions. I don't expect a great deal but there will be books to read.

Expect the unexpected or expect nothing and you'll never be disappointed.

I'm not disappointed. To say that I'm disappointed assumes that I expected something different. No one attends the first auditions. Moira came, Christine Baldwin and young Sian. It was very good to see her again. There was a new young lady, Aelonwy Merch Rose and a new small Bethany but I don't think the little one will stick with it.

The usual suspects

At last the core members have turned up. Steve and Lesley, Moira again so she wasn't put off by Tuesday's low attendance, the youngsters Stephanie, Rachel, Anya, Sian. The new small was a no show but her mum said she couldn't come tonight. The wonderful Chrissie J, always pleased to see her, Aelonwy wasn't put off either, Richard and Len, even Charles made it. Things are looking a little bit hopeful. No, mustn't say that. Bad rice.
