Moira Welstead

Vice Chair

Read my story

I moved to Wales in 2004 to take up sheep farming with my husband Bill.  Although the livestock has now increased to include cattle, pigs and ponies (Bill was worried he might be bored when he retired), there is still time for me to indulge my long-standing interest in the theatre.

Very soon after we moved to Wales, I was invited by DADS member Ruth Nicholls to take part in a summer show, reading poetry by Wendy Cope.  Since then I have been pleased to act in various pantomimes and plays.  I recently directed Blithe Spirit.  I also look forward to the monthly poetry and prose readings as a reader, organiser or audience member.

My enthusiasm for acting and recitation began at an early age in school plays and amateur dramatic societies.

My  ‘greatest hits’ have included Shylock in Merchant of Venice, Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Eliza Doolittle in Pygmalion and Bernarda Alba in The House of Bernarda Alba.  I also had some success in performing in speech and drama competitions in local music festivals.  I have just started rehearsals for the 2009 Christmas Show, Oz, after mucking out the cows of course.

I am currently vice chairperson and membership secretary.

Web-master's note. Sadly, Moira will be leaving us in October, she and Bill will be heading north to the Hebrides (you can't get a lot further away from us than that! Was it something we said.) but she will still be a member of the society
